Affectionately known as the ‘Silver Bullet’ this classic 1960’s Motor Rail sets off from the tropical coastal paradise of Cairns North Qld to the former mining town of Forsayth, the remote heart of Queensland’s Gulf country.
Travelling the 425km journey takes you back in time through some of the most dramatic scenery changes possible with overnight stops along the way until arriving at the end of the line, the heritage listed railway station in outback Forsayth.
Your on Board Experience
The Savannahlander is not only a unique train journey but a great way to see some genuine ‘one of a kind’ attractions. You will enjoy an informal and relaxed atmosphere where the driver acts more like a chauffeur.
The Savannahlander has the line to itself, so requests to stop the train for a better photo, a closer look at the local flora and fauna or to sneak up on some wallabies, is always met with a smile. You can even have a seat in the driver’s cabin to get a better view of what’s ahead. The only thing you can’t do is drive the train.
Truly an experience you wont find anywhere else !
